Council Tax reduction he;p please

Options
I receive my mail to my Fathers address but I don't actually live there. I stay with friends in many different places throughout the year. It's just a lot easier to have my mail going to one place than changing address very frequently.
My Father is claiming a single person Council tax reduction for the property. What defines my residence there? Can i still receive my mail to his address without him being liable to pay full council tax?

Where do you vote? Where does your employer think you live? Where is your doctor?

as you probably expected ... it depends

if you have left any personal belongings at your father's then the council could argue there is an intention to return there, in which case you are in occupation and your father is not entitled to SPD

as LeLoup points out above, there are numerous subjective issues associated with the question "where do you live?" which form part of the assessment of whether your father is entitled to single occupancy discount.

If you have possessions at your father's house that could suggest to a council that you have some intention of returning there, which would mean no single person discount.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Yep any assessment would take into account accessible hard facts and subjective assessment by the council. Your post would probably only be an issue if you were having council post sent there, your address on the electoral roll, could be a big factor, all other factors would be quite subjective and at the discretion of any one making an assessment, based upon how convinced they were that you genuinely lived elsewhere.

Do you have a bed at your father's house that you can return to at any time...i.e tonight?

It makes it difficult to prove you live elsewhere if you have nothing in writing saying you live elsewhere. I'd try and get post redirected elsewhere if you can.
