Weigh up the pros and cons

I am new around here, so sorry if this point has already been made (and even more sorry if it is in the wrong place).
There are many ways that a bit of extra money can be made by many different means but you have to weigh up the pros-and-cons to determine if it is a good use of time. I used to spend a lot of time on a several sites earning pennies - I think the equivalent worked out at between 50p to £1 per hour - but by signing up to an hour of overtime or getting a second job I was able to earn over £10 per hour (less taxes).
On the other hand, if I am relaxing in front of the TV, I quite often tap away on my tablet earning a few pence.

Overtime is not always available to everyone nor is getting another job. I work shifts and they vary from week to week; whenever there is more work to do, I take it but my working hours make it impossible for me to get a second job. Lost of people are in this situation, including parents with small children.
PTC and GPT sites are not meant to replace a "real" job but they are a great complement as they allow you to earn whenever you are not doing anything else.0 -
If I had the choice between overtime or survey sites etc I'd always choose overtime. As you say the hourly rate for doing these sites is so poor that even if your on the minimum wage you stand to make more money through overtime.
Sadly my contract at work states that I won't get paid for any work done outside my contracted hours and I'm also not allowed to take a second job. So the survey sites etc is all I can do.
In favour of survey sites though, if they existed in my teenage years then I would definitely have chosen them over my paper round. The hourly rate is probably not that different but it sure beats getting up at the crack of dawn in all sorts of weather delivering newspapers.0
