We are having house renovations done and moved out 3months ago. Due home very shortly
:T
The fridge has always been plugged in and used for milk for tea/coffee etc. we emptied it completely when we left and cleaned it out.
New flooring went in and they removed the fridge to floor underneath it which meant unplugging and it's never been plugged back in. I just about died with the smell that came out of it!
If I've ever had to turn it off I know to leave the doors open to avoid the smell.
Anyway damage is done now, cleaning mission today. How do I get rid of the smell?! I have vinegar, bicarb etc all to hand!

Clean with a solution of bicarb, allow to air dry ...

If it is just trapped stale air it will probably go if you give the fridge a good clean and leave the door open for a while. Don't forget the door seal. Bicarbonate of soda is a good deodoriser, as is lemon.
It could be worse, - somebody in our block of flats left food in his freezer (fish, we think) and left it when he moved out. The smell was absolutely putrid, it stunk the whole block out! _pale_sealed pot challenge 9 #0040 -
Thanks guys! You say leave the doors open so I assume I clean while switched off...?
What do I do with bicarb? Make a paste? Leave it dry?0 -
Yes, definitely while switched off, or the fridge will be working overtime to keep the temperature at around 4 degrees while constantly being exposed to the temperature in the room.
You can use bicarb like ajax, and rinse it off, and/or you can leave a small dish of it in the fridge and it will absorb odours.sealed pot challenge 9 #0040 -
Thank you for the info. I have a new fridge and want to keep it in as good as condition as possible. Going to clean it out today so will make sure to do the seals.0
