Tesco Extra Cornwall. Product on shelf in discounted area. SEL marked down but package free from yellow stickers. Limited stock and they have been hanging about for ages. I finally caved in and was prepared to pay the £45 marked. May be worth a look in your Extra.
Anyway RRP is about £70.
On the shelf in Tesco marked as £45(ish). Ebay selling at £30
Scanned at the checkout at £17.49.
This is a Kensington Notebook 70W AC/DC power adapter. It will work in the car from the cigar socket. It works on some planes. It works from 240V from UK sockets and also 120V (US plug included). Its nice and sleek.
It comes with different power tips so it will will work with most older laptops up to 70W. The newer Vista capable laptops will need more power and I think this will not be suitable (i.e. 120W).
Anyway if you have an older laptop, you can leave the PSU at home and pack this instead.
The deal also includes an adapter to charge Ipods (not yet checked if I can get one).

Just check your laptop's existing power supply: if it's 70W or less, you will be OK. Vista is hateful, but it can't be blamed for nearly doubling power consumption. The newer Vista capable laptops will need more power and I think this will not be suitable (i.e. 120W).
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
For people who need the 120W one, then check eBay, I got one for £25.90 inc. postage (from the US) last week, it was in a plain box (OEM) but came with a carry case and 9 tips and was a good deal.0

Presumably this has various output voltages?
Mine(a basic but modern Dell) is 19v - 3.16A but I understand that not all laptops are 19volt??
The supplied AC/DC converter works on an input of 100v - 240v obviously with a 19v - 3.16A output - so only 60 watts.
I bought a DC - DC adapter for use on aircraft very cheaply. Input is 12v 15amp and output voltage ranges can be set between 15v to 24v in 1 volt steps.
Incidentally when monitoring the consumption of my laptop from mains it is pretty consistent at 25watts.0 -
If you follow the link it will tell you if your laptop is compatible and which power tip is needed.
The advantage of this is that the AC and DC are combined into a single unit.0
