Which may have just seen their FCA fees triple - hence their change of stance.

What do we believe most 'local mortgage advisers' are charging?

The one we went with (over a Countrywide broker, which incidentally was £175 up front but also £175 on completion) was £299 but only on completion.

We are paying £495 which is 0.5% of the mortgage amount. Our broker also gets commission from the lender, and a payment from the solicitors they recommended.
    :j PAID VERY, Barclaycard x3, Vanquis, Natwest, O/D, Tesco & MBNA x2 PAID :j LBM 24/07/15 - Original Debt: £0/31010.23 (100% paid)

I didn't pay anything to my broker, and the commission from the Nationwide was £680. I don't know whether that all went to the broker, some to him and some to the network, etc...

Similar setup here and from that amount it sounds as though we have similar mortgages
  • I've been in the position where I've not been able to get a recommendation for an advisor. It's really frustrating when you come on here and see great advice from brokers whom you can't access! It'd be great to be able to use one off here instead of thinking god I wish he/she was my broker!

I used one off here. Just PM them. Some on here don't do telephone only, some do only face to face. Just take your pick your reallly.

Got my mortgage offer very quickly with self employed status too.

You can access them - they can't access you.
