Hi guys
I'm sure I have read about some porridge that you can make overnight ?
I would really like to have a try of this with cinnamon raisins and apple but I'm not sure how to do it
I'm really hoping you can help as cinnamon and apple is my BF fave and he's staying tonight so I want to try to impress ... He also has crohns and doesn't eat the best so I'm hoping to change this when he moves in after the building work is finished
Thanks a mill

I think it's just a case of soaking the oats overnight (in milk) then adding flavourings and/or fruit and popping in the microwave for a minute or two in the morning?
I make oat pancakes and they're always better (softer) when the mixture has been left to stand a few hours or overnight.0 -

Thanks ... I'm not really a porridge eater but BF does buy the little pots sometimes. No way am I spending a fortune on these when he moves in so I'm hoping to show him that mine is just as nice
Do you know how much milk to porridge ratio ? And is it worth soaking the raisins overnight too ?
Thanks

I used to soak the porridge, but found it makes no difference.
I put three dessert spoonfuls in a bowl, a not quite full cup of water and two minutes in the microwave.
I then add Whatever fruit I'm using, quick stir in the heat, then a bit of milk to cool and thin it a bit.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Instructions from the box. I'd go for the Quaker oats as he's probably used to oats-so-simple sachets which is just Quaker Oats in measured portions. The weight of oats to milk/water ratio is very important. Add a bit of sugar and salt and it's exactly the same as the cup for 99p.
If you have time...
Mix 40g of Quaker Oats with 300ml of milk (or cold water) in a saucepan and bring to the boil.
Simmer for 5 minutes.
If you are in a rush...
To serve: 1, Ingredients: Quaker Oats 40g (3/4 cups), Milk/Water 300ml (1 1/2 cups), Cooking Time: Category D (min 700W) 4 minutes, Category E (min 800W) 3 1/2 minutes
To serve: 2, Ingredients: Quaker Oats 80g (1 1/2 cups), Milk/Water 600ml (3 cups), Cooking Time: Category D (min 700W) 6 1/2 minutes, Category E (min 800W) 6 minutes:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

What you are thinking of is "Overnight Oats". There are loads of recipes for variants of it on Pinterest for instance. Just put in "breakfast" under Pinterest and many of the ideas that come up will be for it.
I've not tried the fruit, etc, variations on it yet - still in the "pending tray".
I do soak my oats overnight (in milk) before cooking them as porridge in the morning. It does make a noticeable difference I find. So I do it for that reason and because of being conscious one is supposed to soak oats really because of neutralising the phytic acid in them (or summat - I'm not that technically minded:rotfl:).0 -
There are also recipes for overnight oats that refer to cooking them overnight in a slow cooker rather than soaking. These are supposed to be delicious but I've never tried it as I'd have to make more than we'd ever eat in my slow cooker. If you had a smaller one it might work though!

I often do overnight oats but don't cook them the next day. Just soak them overnight, add some seeds in the morning and eat them from the jar. My favourite is chopped dates which almost dissolve in the milk and don't need sugar. I also like soft fruit such as strawberries or lightly cooked blueberries with a tea spoon of chia seeds and a little honey.
If I was adding apple and raisins to oats I wouldn't bother to soak it overnight , just cook the mixture in the morning.0 -
I just pour boiling milk on top and leave for 10 minutes then add the topping of choiceBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
