Rehabilitation...

Hello all,

OK. We recently sold our house to pay debts and get straight. I'd lost my job in 2012 and basically lived on credit cards (still working but not paid enough to cover everything) until I had to admit defeat and enter into a DMP.

Anyway, everything is paid up; I repaid the debts in full and we're now living in rented accommodation with a lease for a year. We want to buy a house again in the summer; we have a good deposit but I want to do everything I can as soon as possible to ensure we can get a mortgage.

I'm aware the episode will stay on my credit rating for six years, but what can I do to improve things, and make sure we can get a decent mortgage next year?

Thanks, Andy

With no amounts, registration dates, loan to value/deposit etc it's impossible to say what will be possible or when.

On the run-up, speak to an independent broker with copies of all three versions of your credit file in hand.

It also goes without saying to make sure everything is paid on time between now and then.

    Equifax, Experian, Call Credit.

Try noddle.co.uk for the Call Credit info, and clearscore.com for the Equifax info.

That address is a large format screen printing service in Suffolk.

clearscore.com is the one you want

Thanks for the tip though - I didn't know there was a free way to see the Equifax credit record.
