Has anyone had trouble printing out the SA tax forms ? Not experienced this before, and printer seems to be working , but on the print out, its replacing lots of letters and figures , with little squares making the form almost impossible to fill in ! I could do it by inserting my own replacements, but I doubt they would accept that.
Can anyone throw any light on this please?

ps Im using a Brother 2250DN and the pages look perfect after downloading , just change on printing out.

Update.
Switched everything off and tried it all again couple of hours later- normal this time, so dont know what happened before. .

One thing I found is that HMRC's forms don't like anything but Internet Explorer and Adobe. As a habitual Firefox / Foxit user, it's a pita to have to remember that and change the defaults all the time ...

  • Some time ago I had a similar problem with an application for gift aid. I ended up having to ring them, and can confirm that you must use Windows Explorer. Once you use that you should be ok.

Really? The forms are in PDF format, there is no need to use a buggy obsolete browser for printing those or anything else come to that.

You'd think so. However, I can confirm from experience printing forms from HMRC, the Lottery Fund and assorted other government related sites that the forms will NOT necessarily download properly from other browsers, and that if you want to complete them on the computer then you need to use Adobe Reader.

I've just found a form saved on my computer which DH had to get me to download from Lloyds Bank: he's using Linux and could not get forms to download in a 'complete onscreen' format, and he couldn't print the sections he needed without starting to fill them in.

It's not the way it SHOULD be, it's the way it is, and if the OP or anyone else has a similar problem in future then that's my suggestion on solving it.

Interesting, I'm a heavy Linux user myself, and have never come across this issue. Just tried downloading several HMRC forms in Chome & FF on my Windows PC without issue. Also tried a couple in Safri on my iPad and again no issues.
  • why print them out ? do it on line.

Well, both the Lloyds form and the probate forms where I've encountered this problem had to be printed after being completed online because they couldn't be submitted online.

If they look perfect on downloading but print badly then it suggests your printer is the issue

Try reinstalling the printer driver on your computer
