RBS Default

Hi
Sorry if this has been answered before but i couldn't find the answer i was looking for.
I have a default on my credit score from my student RBS bank account. All of £409 which i eventually paid off through a collection agency.
I was under the impression that once paid off i could get the default removed seeing as i had actually paid it? What i don't understand is, when i'm paying the payments it says 2 yellows for late then 3 reds for missed? even though the balance is going down?
is there anybody i can call/write to, to try and get this removed. I cant get accepted for a mortgage because of a £409 student mistake. Seems unfair.. but then again life is.
many thanks
Mr Seamaster

A default is not removed when you pay off the debt. It stays for 6 year from the original default date. It is just marked as satisfied.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
