Has anyone else applied for a (Nationwide) mortgage using Forces Help To Buy (FHTB) for some or all of their deposit?
If so, did you find yourself having to change the contribution of FHTB after your PIN was issued?
We are having an ongoing battle of bureaucracy between Nationwide and MOD and keep receiving conflicting advice so I'm reaching out to save my sanity!

They generally wont issue an amended PIN if you change your figures and Nationwide being Nationwide wont accept your word for it that it has been amended and will want it on paper...
Last one I had difference was only £500 and to move on client just agreed to up his deposit and leave FHTB unchanged after all...
If your stuck elevate through your CoC and that may help because NW dont change policy for ANYBODY!I am a Financial Adviser specialising in Mortgages, Protection, Health and Medical Insurance. Funny you should say that....we lost all patience with getting a second PIN / trying to get NW to accept that PIN is a one off, that we agreed to meet the £9k difference in cash from our NW ISA. The change of deposit paperwork went in last night and after 16 days of this nonsense, a cash buyer has literally just put in an offer on the house and we're now back to square one.
Needless to say I'm pulling all our banking from NW in a teenage like strop.0 -
I have nothing to add Pig, but would just like to say I'm sorry that, having contributed to the safety of the UK, you are having this trouble. Sounds like you're not alone though.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

There are of course lenders who do not ask for a copy of the PIN allowing you to get from application to offer much more quickly...I am a Financial Adviser specialising in Mortgages, Protection, Health and Medical Insurance. lisa110rry - That's kind of you. Sadly our occupation is not speeding up this process!
stephenni1971 - As frustrating as today has been, the reprieve we have been given is the sellers have now opted to go to a closing date which gives us a few days to get the final tick in the NW box. I will certainly not be recommending fellow FHTB applicants to be using NW and will have this raised through the CoC.0 -
An update.
If I had to give one piece of advice to anyone wanting to use FHTB - I would recommend on the initial FHTB application on JPA, apply for the maximum you are entitled to. It means your (one time issue) PIN will reflect this. Later on in the process you can reduce this figure and it will make your life a whole lot easier especially if using the Nationwide!.
We are just a few weeks away from completing and apart from this one snag the FHTB process has been straight forward and on time.0
