Resigning from work while on career break

Hi
I've had career break since mid April and I'm due back at work mid February 2016. I've decided I don't want to go back to work. Do I have to wait till my career breaks over and then hand in my notice or can I do it straight away. Thanks

Hi
Read your contract to see what it says about leaving while on a break. Some companies will ask you to hand in your notice {and perhaps return to your job while you "work the notice"} others might just say ok and goodbye but you could loose {if your were entitled} any holiday payments due to you from when you started the career break. You contract should give you all that info if not just contact you HR or manager.0 -
Your employers should have a policy that explains what happens during career breaks and should cover things like:
eligibility and notice periods
how to apply and how long is allowed
if the employment contract’s terms and conditions continue - eg qualifying for pay increases
A career break is just mutual agreement, no law binds you both, but you should read the policy or as aforementioned contact ypur hr manager0
