You Need A Budget. It's personal budgeting software.

Is it really worth it? I can't help but feel like it's a real low blow charging people who are in need of a budgeting tool because they're in debt $60 fair enough it probably shouldn't be free but it feels a bit like targeting the already vulnerable. Does anyone know of a free or less than £5 app for iPhone that would do something similar?
  • It's SO GOOD. You can get a month's free trial to see if it works for you. To be honest, I saved the price of the software within the free trial month, just because it makes you so aware where your money is going. The software is just one part of it, there's also awesome support on the website.

I have recommended it to so many people. Plus if you use someone's referral code then you get 10% off the purchase price as well.

  • YNAB is pretty good, i myself am starting to resolve my debt issues and downloaded the free trial last night, it can be a little confusing but straight away i can see how much i actually have to spend and what i need to save as soon as i have been paid today! which is great because its made me think more clearly about how to make my money save me money rather than cost me more.

Download the trial and take some time see how it works for you!

In what way is charging people for your product a low blow? It's not only those in debt who use YNAB, it's anyone who wants to improve their budgeting. Besides $60 is under £40 and almost everyone who comes on here looking for help is paying more than that every month for Sky TV.

No-one is forced to use YNAB. You could set up your own spreadsheets, use a notebook and pen, other budgeting software. Whatever floats your boat really. I could make my own spreadsheets but for a one off payment of £40 YNAB has done it for me and done the bug fixing.

During my free trial I watched several Ynab webinars and won a free copy. A free copy is given away at the end of each session.

The webinars are late at night as they come from the US, but I learned so much from them. The support you get from the Ynab team is fantastic, and so are the members of the Ynab forum.

There is a youtube channel for it, and some videos on there with tips and how the system works, may give you a better idea.

  • it is really good. It changed the way I handle money. Plus, there are plenty of support in YNAB forum and webinar.

Some people have won free YNAB software.

  • Does anyone else find that it feels a bit hopeless when you first start using YNAB? I mean, when you first set up your categories and 'give every job a dollar'....so, for example, you start putting £20 away towards car repairs, then your car needs a major repair but you've only been doing the budget for two months so you have £40 to pay a £200 car repair bill?

Don't get me wrong, I do love the concept and have started my own spreadsheet based on the concept, but I've found it tricky when things have cropped up in those early stages when you don't have anything close to the ideal figure in your category :-)
