Basic Bank Accounts during Bankruptcy

Hi,
I know, with both Barclays and Santander i went in to the local branch to open accounts and declared the bankruptcy.
The manager at Santander phoned head office to query my bankruptcy and they approved a basic account although they did say it may get shut down later when reviewed but they didn't.
The current account which i had was also not closed down, there was nothing in it and no overdraft.
I never used it much as it was only a cash card not like Barclays who gave me a debit card that works in the UK and abroad which i have used no problem except Tesco in Poland for some reason
Barclays actually keep offering me credit now which i don't want and suprises me as i haven't actually cleaned my file up yet.
Going bankrupt was one of the best things i ever did.0 -
UPDATE:
My account is now open with Yorkshire Bank I have received my debit card fine, pin number, online and mobile working great.
Just waiting for my £150 now and today I managed to open a HSBC Basic Account as well, i applied online received forms to sign and took the form into branch with ID and was opened instantly.
Barclay's stopped my online banking which seems to have effected quite a few. So far the customer service levels with Yorkshire Bank is great and everything went well. I'm so happy to have mobile banking back it's a life saver for me.
I would recommend anyone to call Yorkshire bank and apply over the phone the whole experience was easy and simply.0 -

One question on your online application that HSBC ask is regarding insolvency. You have effectively lied on your application and it would be very wise to let them know asap of the unintended error?
The below happens to any HSBC account you hold and is standard in all of their terms. Problem is you opened the account on the understanding that you are not bankrupt, HSBC ask this when applying online.
If a bankruptcy petition or sequestration
order is presented against you in the UK
then we’ll:
• suspend your ability to make payments
through telephone banking and Online
Banking;
• ask you return your card and cheque
book;
• not be able to make payments from
your account without a Court Order,
and
• set up a separate account in your name
in which any future payments to you
will be held.0 -
The chances they won't find out and they should have done the checks. People do not have times to read every single word in the terms and conditions just for setting up a basic bank account without credit facilities and soon they will be forced by law to allow bankrupts a basic bank account anyway.
This account will not be used and will be kept as an emergency.0 -

Most banks ask if you are or have even been bankrupt when opening an account online or in branch.
They probably will find out.Debt 30k in 2008.:eek::o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

There is no law to say if you are bankrupt you can't open a basic bank account. If the unlikely event they find out then you simply contact the Insolvency Service to have the funds released.0

Maybe there is no law....I don't know.
But the banks will decide whether they wish to keep your business. They could close your accounts at any time without warning once they discover your BR.
And I still don't understand why you think it's unlikely they will find out.Debt 30k in 2008.:eek::o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
