How much am I likely to get back, if anything? I work in an office and an accountant friend suggested I fill in the forms.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

If you have a P60 it will be on there. If not ring payroll and they will have it. Just for the record, if you have more than one job with different uniforms, you can claim for each of them and get a uniform allowance in full for all of them. And you can claim back tax on them for up to 4 years I believe, as long as you've actually paid tax.0 -

I helped my friend with a form a few years back and they got a cheque for around £150.00 for the year and then had to notify of the same details needed every year there after.0 -

What sort of uniform are you required to wear in an office?:footie:

Just standard black trousers and a blouse.
I thought the same as you, but my friend suggested that I could claim back costs, not of the initial outlay, but upkeep I think.
I just thought I'd see if I got any money back.
I have paid tax, lots of it, in my years of working, so thought, what's the harm in trying eh?Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

You can't claim anything then.
You can wear black trousers and a blouse to a restaurant without appearing you work where you do.
If you do claim thinking there's no harm in it and HMRC do investigate then you would have a penalty to pay back and it may cost you quite a lot.
It is called self assessment they will give you a refund if you ask for it whether the claim is correct or not. They won't ask you to justify any part of your claim. If they suspect something is wrong they'll still give you the money and start an investigation.:footie:
