Bank account question

I am just about to set up a DMP and wondering if I need a basic bank account before I do this? I owe nothing to my current bank. I don't have an overdraft. Can I just keep using this account and set up the direct debit to stepchange?

i had a DMP with step change which i finished 2 yrs ago i also had a normal bank account with a debit card and no debts with nationwide running at the same time as the DMP. i have had absolutely no problems with nationwide at all, as a matter of fact i recently needed an emergency loan for vital house repairs they were more than helpful.debt free as of 1/10/2014 and loving it :j
