Another smell problem

This is the first time I have lived in a bungalow with floorboards. Before we moved in we decorated and had the small lounge and bedroom carpeted with a good underlay.
When the summer comes or when the bungalow has been closed up and we re enter there is a peculiar smell that seems to come from just inside the lounge door.
The only way I can describe it is it smells like the inside of a rabbit hutch. I have cleaned the carpet using my carpet cleaning machine hoping that this would solve it but no. Hubby thought that the carpet may have been stored somewhere and become impregnated with this smell.
It is not too bad when the cold weather comes but I can still smell it and it is driving me crazy. I am wondering if something has got onto the floorboards. Or could it come from the attached bungalow that belongs to someone who is not very clean  I am at a loss as to what to do and cant wait to move out of here.

Yeah, might indeed be next door. Are you able to get the floorboards up and seal any gaps leading next door?0

Seriously doubt if the smell comes from your neighbour. I lived in a semi detached bungalow for years, and never had any smells coming from next door. Could it be that the smell is coming from your floorboards, or perhaps underneath? Might there be a dead rodent lurking underneath or something of that ilk?0

Mice. They come in at this time of year. And they have that sort of smell of rabbit/hamster bedding...0

Yes, mice. They prefer clean homes!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Mmmm I have looked all over the kitchen area and everywhere else to see if there are droppings and cant find anything. All my dried foods are in sealed containers so there is nothing for them to eat.
Could they just be living under the floorboards? I cant lift the floorboards up as there is fitted carpet and underlay on them.
We do have a lot of vents around the bungalow of which all but 2 have covers on to allow air flow but not insects to get in.0 -
Yes, they could be, and they could be eating next door... they can nibble their way through any amount of wood, plastic etc. in a very short space of time, and may have created themselves a little world of their own down there. Only metal & stone will stop them.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0
