I have to do a presentation on a familiar topic for my English assessment this week and I thought about doing it on Budgeting and money saving.
Any ideas on what angle I could take on this - I've sat at this computer for hours today and just keep going round in circles.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Hoping you guys can help

How about working along the lines of
a)not being able to form a budget for one week or month, but that it's necessary to plan for a whole year at a time, because some weeks/months are more costly than others.
b) How to plan a budget for Christmas (see above, saving all year, buying bits through the year)
c) Something to do with keeping food costs down, lots of angles you can take on this one.
I feel it might be easier to choose a topic if you focus on one particular area."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I agree you could narrow it down. Say 'Christmas without a January CC bill' and explore the type of things we have on thread.
YS shopping
Hand made gifts
Double up on loyalty card points
Buying all year
Advance planning to deliver presents when you are in the area
Doing surveys to collect gift vouchers
Having a plan with the other adults re secret Santa or token gifts.
I am assuming it is quite a short presentation. Hope this idea helps.2025 Decluttering Campaign 635/2025 🏅🏅🏅🏅(🏅🏅) 🌟🌟

Photocopy some bank notes and hand them out to the group. Say a 'fiver' or a 'tenner' each. Stand in front of the group with your 'banknote' and sloooowly tear it up. What them flinch, even though you've made it quite clear this is fake money. And then try to get them to tear up their fake banknotes, too. It's a squirmy uncomfortable thing to do.
This is a good icebreaker. You can gently point out that when you spend money unnecessarily, you are as good as tearing it up and wasting it.
You can also ask them to work out their True Hourly Rate. This is net income x amount of hours worked (inc commuting time) minus travel and other work-specific. Then introduce them to the idea that the price so something is not just in pounds and pence, but in hours. As in irreplacable hours of your life which you can never ever have back again.
Once you've done this, people will be in the zone for some serious thinking about budgetting. You can also run the calculations of how interest charges accrue on typical APR credit card balances, so people can see the true horribleness of debt.
Best of luck!Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Maybe something about money saving, budgeting and planning for a single person household. I found, when I lived alone, that it was pretty expensive!
