Remove default

I have just checked my noddle report & my credit report is perfect except for 1 default from vodafone.
The default is for £22 & is dated 01/10/2013, I had no idea I even owed them anything!!
Is there any way to get this removed??
Thank you

    Very common story with Vodaphone.

I take it you have never had a demand for payment for this, or any warning that they would apply a default to your credit files if it wasn't paid?

If you have not, could the reason for that be having moved address? Just have to check that in case, before you go too far down the road of complaining.

  • Hi Fermi,
As far as I'm aware I haven't received any payment letters, otherwise I would have paid it.
    I moved house in 2010

So they would have had your correct address in 2013, but did not write to tell you of this?

  • No, I cant even remember when I was with vodaphone it has got to be at least 6+ years ago, so annoying that a £22 apparent debt can ruin your credit history :(

Even odder then, as a default in 2013 for an account that even if yours can't have been earlier than 2009. If there was legitimately anything left unpaid then, then (a) you should have been told at the time and (b) any default should have been dated not to far from then either.

    Can complain to Vodafone that:

    - You have not had an account with them since 200x
    - You dispute that there was any debt left unpaid on any account that you had.
    - Vodafone failed inform you of any debt that they may claim remained unpaid
    - Vodafone have recorded an inaccurate default that you dispute on the basis of the validity of the debt in question.
    - Not withstanding the above, you additionally dispute the default on the grounds that the date would also be inaccurate under the Data Protection Act and ICO Guidelines.
    - You received no notification that a default was to be recorded giving you a chance to rectify any legitimate debt to avoid that possibility, as is advised by the ICO.
    - That unless the default is removed, or amended if it can be proved it was valid and issued according to ICO guidelines, you will be taking Vodafone to their ombudsman, and reporting them to the ICO for breach of the Data Protection Act.

Hi, I had the same with vodafone and when I requested copies of the old bill that I owed and demand letters they couldn't provide them. i was very lucky and had the default removed
  • I'll shall send off an email later, hopefully they remove my default.
    Thank you
  • Hi I'm going to follow this thread. I had the same problem was told in jan 2015 I had no outstanding balance and I was fee to leave vodafone and I moved my number to EE - 8 months later was denied a new bank account and had 8 months worth of default payments against my account for £23. They claim two letter were sent that may have been lost in post... rubbish. Eventually on 14/9/15 was told as a "good will gesture" the £23 will be wiped from my account and requests for payments will cease and I will receive and email with the details. That never came. October came and I have a new default. This is ruining my financial plans, and I have just been on the phone to them again and they can't find anything under my name account number or address. Don't know what to do :(
  • Hi there
It is important to write a letter (and keep copies). On the phone you get fobbed off with all sorts of rubbish but with a letter you have proof of what you said and (when they reply) their response.
Letter and snail mail every time!
    Good luck
