Did you have a contract with your wedding florist?

Hi,

I met a florist which I want to book for my wedding next year. When I contacted her to book she said I just needed to pay a 50% deposit to secure my date. I replied asking if she had a contract for me to sign and she said she doesn't tend to get me to sign anything but I can sign the quote if I want!

Is this the norm with wedding florists? Can other brides tell me if they have had written contracts? Every other vendor I have booked has sent me a contract so it seems weird to not have one. I'm unsure whether or not to walk away and find another florist.

Many thanks,
Debra

  • Don't know if this the norm these days but why don't you visit other florists and find out how they operate?

I personally would want a detailed schedule of what they were expected to provide (my mum still argues that the flowers we got for my wedding 25 yrs ago were different to what we ordered lol!) and I have to be honest 50% seems a little high just to 'secure the date'.....surely they would be able to cater for more than one wedding?

I didn't have a contract with my florist, and I paid everything up front, but we only had 5 buttonholes, two small bouquets and a small decoration for the cake so it was a small sum

Many years ago I did my own flowers, as the prices they wanted then were sky high, goodness knows what they are like now.

A couple wanted deposits towards flowers 20% or something like that, I wrote what I wanted, but walked away when I saw the prices.

No. We paid a deposit and we have an email receipt, if you like, detailing what she will be providing us and its cost. You should get wedding insurance if you're worried about things going wrong.

I'm more than happy with the email confirmation and when we pay the balance I will double check everything with her to make sure everything's in order! :)

I paid a £100 deposit to secure and confirm the date. I am not signing any 'contract' per say as the £100.00 deposit secures their services for my date.

They sent me a quotation, which doesn't change unless I want things changed.

I have a contract for the venue and photographer though.

I paid a £250 deposit to my florist (about a third of the total cost) and she sent me confirmation of what she was providing along with details of the final payment schedule, rather than a formal "contract". I'd also agree with getting wedding insurance if you're worried; we got ours from Debenhams and luckily didn't need to use it!

  • Thanks for the replies. I have spoken to a few different florists now it is does appear that they don't bother with written contracts. I do have wedding insurance with Debenhams so I'm going to stop worrying!

If you have a quote, and you pay her a deposit, you have a contract, just not a written one.
