Hi all
Got diagnosed with a PE and DVT at the end of September and now need to wear 23-32 mm Hg compression stocking until Jan. Thank goodness it is winter.
Got one pair on prescription (£16 charge), then have bought some thigh high and tights from ebay but they are all £15-18 per pair. I want to change them everyday and this is turning out to be an expensive process!

Does anyone know a source of real medical compression stockings that I can buy from please- at a price less than this

Also there is a charlatan on Amazon selling normal tights as medical compression but at least he refunds when you challenge him.

You should be able to get another pair on prescription so you have a spare pair for when a pair is in the wash. My Dad uses them and he initially got two pairs when he was first measured for them. He now gets an additional pair every 8 weeks on prescription. He wears them daily.

    thank you
But I pay for my prescription so that is £16.60 for a knee high pair and £18.50 + £1 special order for a thigh high.
So from Latvia on ebay is cheaper and also does tights which prescription ones do not.

My wife wears sigvaris, not available on prescription but they are the only company to produce in both her size and compression requirements. They are £60-80 depending on style.

Have a look at a prescription prepayment certificate - £29.10 for unlimited prescriptions for three months.

I don't think you can get them as cheap as you want. I use a specialist pharmacy for mine http://www.daylong.co.uk/ as was recommended by a nurse when i was first measured. I get tights on prescription so presume it is clinical reasons that you can't, as you will see lots of types of tights on daylong and they definitely do come on prescription as well as over the counter pricing.

As per the other poster 2 pairs are supposed to be one on and one washed. A quick handwashing or gentle machine wash each night for the dirty pair becomes a habit.

GwylimT is right about the sort of prices I've paid for tights. (GwylimT I get sigvaris made to measure on prescription so should your wife check she definitely still can't?). I would recommend sticking to reputable sources for medical compression in view of your health issues OP.

I hope this is some help. All the best.

Have you asked the GP why they won't prescribe tights OP? Maybe check and see if there is a good reason or if they just don't know about the ranges available.

Daylong should be able to give you some advice for sure - but I can't imagine anything below prescription charge pricing. The prescription charge is a contribution to the costs not the full price after all.

My wife has to wear them due to paralysis, because he hasn't had a DVT she has to pay.

I haven't had a DVT either GwylimT. I have a different medical condition for which compression is recommended to reduce swelling and circulation issues. I guess maybe I'm lucky that it is recognised as a helpful practice and the hospital consultant wrote to the GP,as did the specialist nurse, so the GP issued me the prescription.

I'm sorry to hear they won't prescribe it for your wife.

    Thank you all.
As I have said before though if I get them on prescription I have to pay a prescription charge per pair.
The GP has just told me to buy them, and the hospital after prescribing one pair told me that I would be getting an appointment for a fitting which has not come through.

But I am all kitted out now.

I got 2 pairs thigh high stockings, and 2 pairs of tights from these people on ebay

They came within 5 days and are excellent medical grade, robust compression and quality at about 14 per pair

The GP is avoiding answering anything about the clotting treatment as a doctor at the surgery put me on HRT which is believed to have caused the clot and should apparently have not been done given my medical history.

When I have seen them since the clot they just ask every 5 minutes if I am going to make a formal complaint!
