Halifax mortgage issues

Hi,

Sorry this is a bit long winded, but need to tell the whole story.

Me and my partner are currently going through with buying a shared ownership house.
Two months ago we went to Halifax and obtained our mortgage in principle. We have 10% and enough money for all the added costs. They said we were able to borrow £94,500, which was perfect for us and what we needed.

Roll on nearly two months later, we go in to get our mortgage package and our mortgage advisor has an IT problem with the system. He says it's stuck between two systems - the one they do in the bank and the online one you fill in. It will only show us having four children or one child. We have two and always write in two during the process (as I have a newborn). Because of this error it is giving us £20,000 less than we had agreed. He also checked it the day before we went in to see him and everything was fine the day before. - showing that initial amount.

We wait a week to see if the IT department can solve it. They couldn't so it went to the underwriters.
We get an email from our mortgage advisor saying that it's sorted in that it now says two children but he feels it isn't as it's still projecting a lower amount. He sent it back to the underwriters as he isn't happy.

We are concerned now that the house is going to fall through and because of this error we will not get this mortgage and will not be able to get another one, meaning we'll be staying in rented accommodation. What is the likelihood that the underwriters will see that the amount at the moment was projected for four children and no two? We have not taken anything out in the last two months, and if anything we have been on a tight budget to make sure that we don't go into any overdrafts or pay anything on a card.

Thanks for reading.

This is a Halifax mortgage being done by a Halifax employee?

The problems you are recounting are nothing a broker will ever have come across before, so I suspect nothing helpful will come from posting on here, unless a member has had the same happen to them.

The people getting paid for doing this for you should be sorting it out and not taking such a long time to do it.

    Yes Kingstreet,

This mortgage is being done by an employee, but because he cannot sort it out himself he has had to pass it over. He is keeping us informed but he can not do anything either to help.

Thank you for your input though. My SO and myself will be back on to them tomorrow morning. If this doesn't happen due to a technical glitch and no fault of our own, we will be putting in a formal complaint and then ombudsmen if we have to.

It turns out that this is the correct amount after being sent back by the mortgage advisor. Bit gutted as that is quite a jump down from our mortgage promise. Not sure what we we going to. We were told by the mortgage advisor to go to nationwide but we are worried that it could potentially happen again.

From what the mortgage advisor said to my partner, it wasn't anything we had done as a couple personally, but that it was down to them being strict and having double because it's shared ownership and because it's with a housing association but surely that would be accounted for in the original agreement?
