Hard or soft.....ahem!

Without the lender telling us how can we tell if they've done a hard or soft search for a mortgage on our credit files? Is there a difference in what we see when we look at our files? From my understanding (which is limited!!) we can see both if we log on to experian/Equifax

    Who was the lender?
Was the check done online/in branch or with a broker?

If it says "First Mortgage" it's a hard search.

If it was a soft search it will usually show up as a quote not a credit check.
  • It comes under 'credit search'. It's with the Leeds. Been there since DIP so wondered if it was just a soft check and if there would be another.

Full credit check (Hard) by the sounds of it. Doesn't mean they won't do another one later on in the application.
