Hubby has one and they are great. Not the cheapest option, but he says going up hill is like cycling on the flat.
For a city like Sheffield, I would say an ebike would be ideal. They don't give you extra speed on the flat or downhill (by law the assistance must cut out at 25 kph or ~15 mph), but you can accelerate quicker - great in traffic - and there is a gentle push helping you up the hills. Ebikes are generally robust and can cope with potholes and bad surfaces. Two issues might be the cost (good ones are not cheap) and security. But only the OP knows how much of a factor that would be. Certainly more realistic as a commuting device than a scooter. For short distances, flat terrain and no luggage, a scooter might be handy, but throw in a few hills, a laptop and a few sandwiches and it's a bike every time.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0
