Warning - Windows 10 has disabled my Kaspersky

This morning I turned my computer on and it said scheduled restart after updates due at 6.12, so I restarted straight away.

Once the PC has restarted, it said something like 'turn your anti-virus on' or something like that. Well I have Kaspersky anti-virus installed on my computer, so went to check files and Kaspersky has gone from my PC. I tried installing it again from my downloads and whichever version I tried, it kept saying Kaspersky doesn't run with Windows 10.

So for now I have Windows Defender on, which PC did automatically, but just beware if you have Windows 10 installed, and I hope it is as efficient as Kaspersky

  • You really don't need any virus killer on Win 10. Windows defender is updated regularly and is really just as good for everyday use. It's quite the overkill to have more than one on a system.

Thanks for that info !!!!!! :T

I've got KIS 15 installed, which has been working fine (or so I thought), but it was just this recent Windows updated that has thrown it out

I'll have a look at installing a newer version of KIS later, and thanks once again :T

Windows 10 does all it can to make you secure. When you update, it looks at your current setup and makes the most secure choice.

If you have an AV installed and it's out of date (no updates), incompatible, or not working - Windows 10 will bin it and activate Windows defender.

If you have an AV that is in subscription, working and all set up - Windows 10 should choose that at the other side.

Traditionally, people turn on a new PC or upgrade to a new OS and re-installing AV is the last thing on their list meaning they are flying insecure for ages before they get round to it. Windows 10 prevents this.

Defender is decent. Probably not as good or updated as quickly as a paid for AV, but decent for most people.
