BW Legal from out of the blue

Hello,
I've just come home to find a letter from BW Legal asking me to complete an income and expenditure form, enclosed with the letter.
It's the first time I've ever heard from them and the debt is for a Halifax £1,000 overdraft taken out approx nine years ago. To my shame I took it as a desperate student and then moved house about 7 times over the years and I'd forgotten all about it until now. I was in a bad way at the time, not that that's much of a defence. I have never paid a penny of this back.
There is no information included in the letter except for the amount and to whom the debt is owed and a reference number.
what should I do about this form, it seems very out of the blue without any prior contact.
Thanks in advance!

Is this just their own I&E form, or is it or the letter referencing a court order or claim?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

If it's the former, the debt will most likley be statute barred, if it's the latter, you need to defend on that basis.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Send the standard statute barred template and see what they come back with.I do Contracts, all day every day.0

Hello it's their letter, I'm not familiar with any of the processes so I'm not sure what you mean by referencing a claim. Other than the details about Halifax and the amount there's nothing except guidance on completing the form.
Will have to look up the statute barred template as I'm not familiar with that either!
Thanks for suggestions

Ok, that could mean they are preparing to take court action.
This is what you should do now.
You should not complete there forms, instead, search online for a :
"statute barred debt template letter",
adapt the letter to your own situation, and send it to the address you have for them, preferably by recorded delivery.
See what they come back to you with, and post back for further advice.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
