  • My current problem is that our office is freezing and I feel the cold so I am looking for ways to look smart but keep warm. Big woolly jumpers dont quite look the part and I am not keen on wearing jackets when I am working at my desk.

Fan heater under your desk is the way to go! Seriously though check out the ACAS website for minimum office temperatures to ensure your company is compliant.

Re keeping warm, buy vest tops and wear them under your shirt/blouse, really makes a difference.

I love TK Maxx. It's hit and miss but a lot of my best work bargains come from there. I recently got a gorgeous pair of smart black Jobis wool trousers for £16.99. In another life I would've paid £100 for similar in Jigsaw! If you can't bear trawling through the shop, their website is good and you can search by size or brand - try Fenn Wright Manson, Jobis, Boden, Clements Ribeiro, Jaeger, French Connection.

Also, another vote for sales online and trawling charity shops/eBay for labels you like.

It's much more fun shopping this way!

Not sure what size you are looking for, but if it's size 14 upwards, do you have a Taking Shape shop near you? I used to buy from them when we lived in Australia. They had lovely clothes, comfortable, stylish and reasonably priced. There are quite a few good vouchers going around at the moment for them, and I think, if you join up to their newsletter, they would send you a welcome discount voucher.

My DD, who is size 10, buys her work clothes from H&M and Miss Selfridges. I quite liked Jane Norman but they don't seem to be around anymore.

ebay is good as you can get a designer thing and wear it with cheaper things and the overall effect is ok
