Hi all,
Travelling from Musselburgh to Edinburgh and return by train in a couple of weeks time. I notice there is a good price for us, one adult and one child aged 14, with the "kids go free 1" return ticket.
Musselburgh is an unmanned station, with only ticket machines. Can I buy a kids go free 1 return ticket on the day at the ticket machine, or do I need to do so in advance and then collect the tickets from the machine?
eta - i just phoned Scotrail customer service enquiries, they have told me I can try the ticket machine and see if the kids go free option comes up, and if it doesn't I can sort it out on the train - does this sound right? Sorry I have no idea, usually if we're travelling by train its long-distance, not local, and we've sorted out our tickets weeks in advance.

Yes you can purchase at machine.
On main screen there is a grey button marked other ticket types/destinations
Push that to second screen to input destination station, enter first few letters then pick station from popup destinations RH side.
Choose Kids go free
Enter number adults, kids, pay by credit card
Or purchase on trainThe world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0
