Training as a bus driver

Currently work in the motor trade in parts and theres rumours of redundancies so basically I'm looking for another job, fancy a change of career and would like anyones past experience on bus driving, the company is trent barton and they train you and pay you a lower rate and then once you've done your training you get paid more, anyone on here a bus driver or done it in the past that could advise me on what its like?.

Thankyou

Have a look on TruckNet in the Pro Driver section of the forum. If you use the search option you should get some results. I remember reading about people who were considering being a bus driver

There's a few people on there who were bus drivers and are now HGV and vice-versa

I only wanted advice on choosing a career as a bus driver. Sadly there's a lot of poor decision making on the roads and wreck less driving, a complete idiot last night overtook a transit van in a mondeo estate just before a bad bend where lots of accidents happen, I cringed and thought please hope there is nothing coming the other way, I passed my motorcycle test a couple of months back as it's something I've always wanted to do but some days I think is it worth it when one wrong move could end up in losing my life, I have 2 young children also so not sure how bus driving hours would affect my time with them, I work quite long hours as is 8-5 -5.30 and 1 in 3 Saturdays.

If you have a look on TruckNet you'll more than likely be able to find a number of people who are/were bus drivers. I read a post from one last week who recently got his HGV licence and had a bad day with the reversing of an artic, he said he might go back to driving buses.

From what I've read your two main issues will be trying to keep your route running on time and problem passengers. I'm almost certain that you'd have to work shifts too.

It's something I considered for a short time, after reading posts from former bus drivers it put me off. I don't want to deal with abusive passengers and drunks but they would more than likely be a very small percentage.

I used to drive for a living and after four years I've stopped as it's just not enjoyable, like you said, there's far too many idiots on the road.
