Job application references

Hi all,
I am in a dilemma on my references. I am currently employed under a fixed term contract. I am currently looking at other positions and therefore applying for jobs. I have not directly told my line manager that I am looking for other positions. All jobs applications require for a reference of your most recent employer. I have two queries on this:
1) I know applications give the option to request that that a reference is not contacted before an interview. Somehow I still feel vulnerable by putting my current employer down, i.e. they might be contact by mistake, etc.
2) I have asked all of my past references for their permission to include their contact details on a application form. However have not asked my current employer for obvious reasons.
How do you all deal with this?
Thanks everyone

Most online application forms I've come across have a tick box option to be fair, if you give permission for referees to be contacted before interview.
I also have at least 2 previous companies that have changed premises with spurpious contact details since I worked for them so creates a nice convenient hold up in any case
you've kinda reminded me to ask a q but it'll have to be another day!0 -
You're on a fixed term contract, it is only to be expected that you might look for something else.0
