Tax return in the same tax year?

in Cutting tax
Hi,
I am self employed but not currently earning an income. I have recently also been employed for a couple of months (no longer) and in that period, I paid too much tax. Unfortunately as I have received my P45, I have been advised by HR that I can't claim the tax back through them. I am well under the earning threshold.
My current self assessment is not for this tax year, so I am not sure how to go about getting the tax back before the 5th April next year.
Any advice would be really helpful.
Thanks
