Holiday approval

I am employed full time and will have the holiday to take.
I am wondering if anyone can help with how long does a employer need to take with approving my holidays.
I've given them almost 2 months notice and it's coming up to just under 1 month and I've not had a definite response saying I have (or have not) got the holidays.
I found the UK gov site and it says:
But I'm not sure when the notice period is that it talks about or when that starts. So I asked for 5 days in total. Is this 10 days from my submission of a holiday request? or 10 days before the holiday should start?
I've been looking on various sites etc, but cannot find anything about this.

The general notice period for taking leave is at least twice as long as the amount of leave a worker wants to take (eg 2 days’ notice for 1 day’s leave), unless the contract says something different.
An employer can refuse a leave request but they must give as much notice as the amount of leave requested, eg 2 weeks’ notice if the leave requested was 2 weeks.
But I'm not sure when the notice period is that it talks about or when that starts. So I asked for 5 days in total. Is this 10 days from my submission of a holiday request? or 10 days before the holiday should start?

Taken literally they could refuse 5 days before your holiday was due to start.
The ten days relates to if they exercised their right to tell you when you must take your holiday.
The law on this is very much on the employers side. Basically, they can almost totally dictate when you can and cannot take holiday.
In practice most firms have procedures that give employees more freedom in this respect than the strict interpretation of the law.
All of this applies to your statutory holiday entitlement of 28 days. If you get any holiday over and above this then the employer can have whatever rules they like about the extra days.0 -
Ahh, I did get a part response. There is a whole other story to it, but I'll not go into it on a public forum. I'm going to see what they say on Monday.
