Customer Claims Handler Role

I always see this type of role come up and often consider applying however I just seem to lack the confidence to apply.

It would be a completely new field but its offers the chance of working for a major insurance company, full training etc.

Key skills required?

  • I done a comparable once for Ipswich it involved first stage listening skills test along with a telephone interview, (you are allowed notepad) which passed takes you to one of the assessment days where you have a group exercise, technical skills are tested being literacy and numeracy (working to formula's and producing written communications being a big part of it so I understood) following by a formal interview (which they may give behaviour criteria in advance to follow as to what they look for) to be fair they do let you know every inch of the way, what's what and why they are assessing this and that so you could in theory practise prior to the interview.
    I found HR very helpful (go direct, agencies might get you in on less but that's a disservice) but I realise they are not there once you are on your own and I personally don't like large environments as I get dreadfully claustrophobic.

    Mathematics strongly - (my weakest point where the bubble did burst)
    Remaining calm on the telephone, just think of some of the worldwide disasters down to roadside breakdown
    Detective-ness
    Ability to be governed heavily by rules and regulations
    Being in an ever changing environment

    You also need to be able to prove ID on the day and pass a credit and referencing check - recruitment was like for a team of 10 if I remember, so you join not alone if that helps. :)

    I'm a claims handler for a big UK insurance company.

    The recruitment process for my role is;
    Apply online via CV
    Telephone interview
    Role play / one to one interview
    Credit / ID checks

    You need good customer service, and to be personable and sympathetic. You need to be computer literate as well.
