Forced to change work location

Hello. I need some help and was wondering if someone could help me.

I work for a big retail company, who have many outlets. I've currently been working in my store for years however they have decided to remove me from my store and put me in a store far away for no reason.

I understand business needs, however. They are removing me, and replacing me with someone who is the same as me. I'm settled in my store and have a great rapport with everyone in the area and customers.

It would actually cost me to travel there, which currently I don't need to travel far as workplace is on my doorstep. So it adds a financial burden to me.

Is there anything I can do? Is there any cases or anything regarding the laws surrounding this?

From what I remember, it said they can move you if required for business needs but what's business needs? Surely if you're replacing someone with somene exactly the same, how is that justified as business needs?

How far is far away (distance and travel time)? And what have they said when you asked why you're being moved?
  • Maybe, as your an experienced member of staff it might need someone who can influence others.

Maybe speak to your line manager about a promotion? Maybe this the company long term aim?

Either that or its simply a fresh opportunity.
  • Could be all to do with your replacement. Maybe there are issues surrounding that person at the store they currently work at...
