Tax Credits

I wonder if I could reduce my hours to 23.5 for the last month of this tax year which removes my eligibility for wtc and thus in theory qualifies my kids for free school meals.
Genius.
I should probably disapprove, but I know across the whole tax year you'll be paying into the system massively more than you extract, so zero shame. Anyone who criticises you will need to be sure that they are also a net contributor.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

No Michaels is a nett taker. A leach on society - no personal hard feeling but he manipulates the system to his families advantage. If everyone did as Michaels the UK would be an awful place.Left is never right but I always am.0

If they are currently claiming full WTC and CTC, how is he/she contributing anything? By my reckoning they are paying zero income tax yet claiming over 15K in CB and Tax Credits whilst also squirreling 60K into a pension fund. Please correct me if I'm wrong Michaels, but if I'm right I don't see that as something to be proud of0 -
In other news I don't get why people feel the need to explain that withdrawing tax credits hurts people on low incomes - of course it does as they are the recipients.
If it ain't !!!! at the bottom what incentive is there to strive?
Unless you are doing much better than average the whole system is geared towards making everyone from low to average nett equal which is just not fair on those in the middle.Left is never right but I always am.0 -
I've never claimed a single tax credit or any other benefit in my life (and couldn't qualify if I tried) but I would like to be educated. But go easy on the old TLAs!I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

These people have got another problem on the horizon.
As the minimum wage increases I know someone (me) who might be able to move to my chosen retirement location in the South-West earlier than anticipated by taking one of these jobs.
I fancy being a hospital porter for £8 or so an hour. When I've upsized to the mortgage free house, have minimal outgoings and the kids are as fully independent as I expect them to be something like that would suit me fine.
Must be plenty of boomers/ Gen x thinking the rising minimum wage is an opportunity to take early 'retirement'. 20 minute cycle commute and a bit of surfing in the summer afternoons - lovely.0 -

I give lots of *very* decent jobs (£30k ish day 1, rapid escalator, and in the North) to young people, but they need to have their heads screwed on right. We've got lots of open vacancies, so I guess it's "the youth" who have to make the move by realising that a CSGE in Drama doesn't exactly cut it,I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

If you disapprove you should be asking your MP why the rules were written in this way rather than worrying about the morals of someone following them.0 -

We have and George is fixing it.
This has been discussed before.... While accept we all do what's best for us and ours to a point I do think there's a place for morals in the world. I'm not perfect by any stretch but I pay my tax, if everyone was like me we'd be ok. Michael's is smart and manipulates the system to his advantage at everyone's expense - if everyone was like Michaels the country would be screwed. He is only able to do what he does because others either have better morals or aren't smart enough.Left is never right but I always am.0
