Tax Credits

Whats with your obsession with Labour? I didnt mention them. I was thinking about the woman in tears on Question Time re. Her tax credits and having voted for porky dave on the basis that he promised not to reduce them on his Question Time appearance? Surely you must be aware of the current conversations about this. We were all talking about it at work yesterday.
Perhaps 'Porky Dave' is not the only one talking 'porkies'?A tearful Conservative voter who confronted a minister on BBC's Question Time over cuts to tax credits is unlikely to be affected by the reforms, according to leading economists. However Ms Dorrell, 35, told The Telegraph that despite her passionate intervention she did not know how she was likely to be affected by the reforms.

You are good tory mate. You know how to make the tax system work for you. I find it quite interesting that the criticism of you is based on the premise that it's not good for 'society'. I didn't think society or the well being of others figured highly in the considerations of our rightward thinking contributors
I'd quite like Michaels to pay more tax because I think it would [STRIKE]mean I'd pay less[/STRIKE] be better for society, I'm a good socialist and always thinking about other people's children ahead of my own.0 -

Yes, difficult decisions needed to be made, and as early in the parliament as possible.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -
what do we know about the QT ladies circumstances?
very little except that she runs a business with zero profit and has 4 children and seems to live in a very nice house.
what do you think her taxpayer funded income ought to be?
We do know that she's very unhappy, unhappy enough to want everyone to know about it . We also know that she voted for porky dave and had expectations that he would keep his word. Like you I don't know what her income is but I'm not to cut up about the fact that the tax payer (as you put it) may assist her....that's probably why you and me don't think alike....something for which I'm profoundly grateful!0 -

many people are unhappy about many things but that doesn't make for coherent policy
we don't know she voted for Dave but we do know she doesn't even know whether her benefits will be affected at all.
how much do you think she is entitled to from the tax payers ?
how much do you think the father of the 4 children should contribute ?0 -
There are people all the way across the income and political spectrums who take the time to understand the rules, be it for tax and benefits, mobile tariffs, energy tariffs or whatever. Others are probably much busier living life, going out, having fun or simply without the maths skills to understand the long term consequences of spending 50 quid a month on an iPhone or 20k on a wedding.0

Zero profit means the tax credits cuts won't affect her. The elements of tax credits aren't being cut, just the threshold and taper rates. Neither of which apply to those with no net income. The limit on two children doesn't apply to children already born.
She's probably read all the propaganda about the cuts - we had loads of people in panic on the benefits board 5 years ago when the new coalition govt were making changes to tax credits - including some increases and some cuts. Loads of them were really worried as they'd read misleading healines about big cuts, but in a lot of cases, when they described their circumstances, they'd actually get an increase not a cut!
These cuts are much bigger, and there are no increases, but they won't affect people right at the bottom, they are targetted at higher earners claiming tax credits.0 -

:rotfl:Another non story lapped up by the Mirror and the usual sanctimonious crew who haven't got a clue. Like the story of the boy crying over his pet worm!
