What's your favourite shampoo and conditioner?

Options
I'm in the market for some new shampoo and conditioner and would love to hear what other users like best.

I have shoulder length dark hair which is highlighted, in good condition but prone to frizz, I'm about a 2A/B hair type, my colour doesn't fade.

I have been using Redken All Soft for a long time but they seem to of changed the formula, in particular of the masque so I fancy a change, I also use head and shoulders every few washes and the purple shampoo when needed for toning my blonde.

DD has very different hair to me and loves Ojon products but my hair hates anything with protein.

So, what do you use? what type of hair do you have? Any price range recommendations would be great :)

  • I'm lucky I have fairly indestructible hair. It is waist length, thick and wavy, blonde with highlights. I personally found middle of the road branded products work best for me. Supermarket stuff is not rich enough, but luxury brands don't make a huge difference either. I try to never pay more than a £ for a 250ml bottle of shampoo/conditioner/hair mask. I also use spray in conditioners and serums.

My favourites so far are the Garnier 'sleek and shine', Schwarztkopf 'gliss' and to fight occasional problems with dandruff I will also use Palmolives antidandruff 'naturals'. Now and again I use Herbal Essences 0 sillicones or Naked 'blondes' in an effort to cleanse hair of build up but Naked seems to be disappearing off the market. I also use hair masks on a regular basis. Tressame and Pantene both seem to react very badly with my scalp so I avoid them.

All the products I use are very budget friendly and I pick them up from Savers, Bodycare or poundshops. I also minimise damage by avoiding hairdryers and styling tools unless its a special occasion.
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

  • Thanks, I had forgotten about Garnier Sleek and Shine, I used to use that years ago with great success, I'm sure it was in the pound shop recently too :)

I love anything by Matrix really suits my hair, I must say I can really tell the difference when I use a professional shampoo and when I don't!

My hair is of a similar type to yours. I colour mine at home (blonde, currently light ash). I use almost any old shampoo but like the standard colour protect versions in most cheaper ranges. I found the purple shampoo very drying so I've started using Superdrugs wash in wash out colour occasionally to maintain the ashy tones.

Current favourite conditioner after lots of trial and error is Dove Intensive Repair which I sometimes use as a masque...and I wash my hair no more than twice a week.

And no hairdryer unless I'm in a real hurry.

I have thick course hair which is currently coloured ash blonde. I have been using Avons argon oil shampoo and conditioner. It has done wonders for my hair, its so soft and controlable.

My hair is part white grey and the rest is ash blond (out of a bottle). I love Loreal elvive for highlighted hair, it leaves it very shiny.

I use Phillip Kingsley - I get the 1 litre size as it works out the cheapest, about £35.

I also have head & shoulders colour. I use it now & then for the first shampoo.

TRESemme ... For shampoo AND conditioner. I have been using them about 7-8 years now, and I always manage to find a bottle that last 3 months for a couple of quid. :)
