Council tax benefit no longer exists so they'll have to pay their council tax especially if the main income earner works for 60 hours per week.

HI, sorry to hear what happened. With 5 children are you claming all the tax credits, free school meals and school grants that you are entitled to?

There is clearly a problem with c tax and rent so even though past debts cannot be cleared this way there may be help for the future bills.with 5 children at school-working 60 hours a week in a low paid job is still not enough money coming in.

It does still exist, it has been rebranded as "council tax reduction" or more commonly "council tax support".

Agreed the OP doesn't earn enough but £6.70 per hour multiplied by 60 hours is £402 per week.

The LHA rate for a 4 bedroom property in the not so posh part of Cheshire is £175 per week. The council tax for a Band D property is around £30 per week. There's still nearly £200 left over and I haven't counted child benefits or child tax credits which will help significantly.

You don't seem to have counted tax though, so take home would drop to something like £330 if they were working 60 hour weeks at minimum wage.
