Mortgage PPI Reclaim Rejection

Help, I recently put in a claim for PPI linked to my mortgage, this was taken out in 1993 through Abbey National which was taken over by Santander. Today I have received a letter of rejection from Santander stating they cannot find any record, this is despite me sending a copy of the original agreement to them & the fact it is still being paid. What happens next?

Any info greatly appreciated.

It is unusual for MPPI to be recorded on the offer letter. However, if it is there and you are still paying it, then there is plenty of evidence for them. I would go back and point it out to them.

However, you should recheck to see if it is actually PPI that you are paying as its not normal for MPPI to appear on the mortgage offer. Perhaps it was MIG that appeared on the offer. If you are still paying a premium, then is it for PPI and not life assurance or something that is not PPI.

  • Thanks Dunston, The PPI was a separate document altogether, & not included with mortgage payment, it says Paymentcare mortgage protection

Ok. Go back to them with another copy of that and say you already provided proof of payment, but here it is again and that the policy is still in force. Tell them that if they do not act on this, you will refer it to the FOS.

Did you simply give the mortgage account number with your complaint? If so, it would not match up - particularly if you moved as the account number would probably have changed and there would be no automatic link up.

You should also be aware that PPI on a mortgage is considered to be a worthwhile product.
  • Thanks magpiecottage, we have lived in our house for 22 years, never moved & never changed mortgage provider.

  • Well, after several letters and phone calls Santander have upheld our claim and have awarded us £6988. Delighted that I pursued this. :)
