Cheltenham festival from Bristol, anyone done this before?

Hi Guys,

Flying over from Belfast for the horse racing festival next March for a few days. Trying to find a hotel which will be close to pubs/nightlife whilst also being close to train station, can anyone advise on where would be well located and decently priced? Many thanks :)

You'll struggle to get one pretty cheap as all the Irish come over. Plus it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere (from the direction we come it seems it is anyway). You might be better booking a coach package and staying somewhere a bit further out. Or keep an eye on the facebook page cheltenham festival 2012 as a lot go from there

National express do coaches then you'd just need to buy your ticket, but a lot of pubs and stuff run trips. Keep an eye on gumtree and the like (I found mine on ebay randomly and have been for the past 3 years. Hoping to go next year too) usually on Wednesdays

  • Look for hotels around Bristol Temple Meads Station. There are trains to Cheltenham from there, and there is a bus that takes you straight to the race ground. Also from Bristol Temple Meads there are regular coaches to and from Bristol Airport. Nightlife/Bars are all walking distance or short 5min taxi hop.
    Student loan: Cleared.
  • Thanks folks

If you use winter22 you'll get 20% off, only until Tuesday though. I used it the other day for a hotel in Leeds and it saved me a tidy sum

birmingham would be nearer than bristol - you might want to consider that as an alternate large city base if you haven't already booked flights

It is very doable and much closer to Bristol than Birmingham.

Plenty of trains from Bristol. The festival is a massive event and extra trains are put on from the centre of Bristol every year and then there are buses aid on to the course.
People book their accomdation the year before, however, there maybe rooms available on airbnb, try some of the cheltenham Facebook pages, not just the racecourse page. Try also looking at accommodation in the Stroud area as also plenty of regular transport links.

Have a fantastic time, I live just 15 miles from there and go every year and have an absolute blast.
Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!
