my mum died recently and we shared all the bills, I am now approx £400 per month worse off, I have an overdraft, a credit card and a loan and no spare cash to pay anything off, any advice appreciated or is there an independent financial advisor I can talk to, total amount of debt is about £12k (loan will be paid off in three years) and I own the property outright with no mortgage, I am 57 but have never had to manage all this by myself before

speak to one of the debt charities that make no charge step-change is a good place to start0

You could maybe start by looking at your spending and see where you can cut back, also look at utilities and contascvtbthem and see if they can reduce the bills.0

If you are the only person in the house, you can claim 25% discount on your council tax.0

you could have a look at the Statement of Affairs link above, and you could post it here if you would like us all to see if we can advise further. There are a few fee debt charities that could help as well- National Debtline, Christians Against Poverty, Stepchange seem to be the most recommended on this site.LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -
Sorry for your loss,
On the main site go and fill in the free budget planner and look at the Money Makeover section.
Post your budget on this forum and then people can see what you are spending and where and then they can offer you more detailed advice.
I did this and it has helped me a lot.
The charity step-change is also worth contacting
Hope this helps0 -

follow the advice above, and really contact one of the debt charities, it's free and will help you out with no commitment.
