There is also no indication that the op's preferred resolution is a cash payment. There is no question in my mind that she would be significantly better off by lodging a claim with the driver's insurance.
Blackmail certainly doesn't cover asking someone to do something they believe is a legal requirement in order to get what they are entitled to.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -

In your position i would have assumed the position on the tarmac and awaited medical assistance ..golden opportunity missed.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Thank you, one and all. Some very insightful people on here this weekend.
Much appreciated!0 -
Take your bike to at least 2(preferably 3) different repair shops and get fully detailed quotes.
Submit these quotes to the drivers insurance company and don't accept a penny less.
The insurance company will try to palm you off with somewhere around half of the quote but the simple fact is that they are liable for the damage unless they can prove you were at fault.0 -
Hi
Don't forget to claim for your impacted cycle helmet, very often damage is not visible.
Had very similar claim myself, having reported it to the police and being able to quote a reference number on the claim made it slightly easier.
As always keep all receipts for all additional expenses for your claim.
Just keep on cycling, hope it all goes well.

If the female driver was naked whilst driving and the OP threatened to call the police and report her unless she paid out the full amount then that would be deemed to be blackmail.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

Did the details you initially exchanged include details of their insurance (insurer, policy number etc)? If not then I would ask for them now and then communicate directly with the insurer setting out your account of what happened, the quote for repairs to your bicycle plus the cost of using public transport (per day/week etc) until your bicycle is repaired.
Among all the noise on the thread, this bit is key. Insurers will deal directly with third parties. Most will have an option on the phone menu for third party claimaints - or just press the option for claims and explain you're the third party. It'll be more efficient to chase the insurance along yourself than to try to get the driver to do it.
As someone else said too, if you were wearing a helmet, replace it. They can easily be damaged in an accident, even if it's not visible, and then not protect you properly in the future.
Glad to hear you weren't too badly injured.0
