Hi guys going to Birmingham for Christmas markets and wonder what would be the cheapest way. I don't have a rail card. Anyone travelled this way lately??

Any train company's website will tell you this sort of thing.
I generally use http://tickets.southernrailway.com/sn/en/JourneyPlanning/MixingDeck and that (and other sites) is still showing those £13 each way tickets for some dates in October.
Remember, with Advance Singles you must travel on the booked trains.0 -
many thanks0

so its costing me 6 quid each way! Ipswich to London Victoria coach station a fiver and a quid to Birmingham. the same coming back so cheap journeys!!0

That is a very cheap journey but have you seen how long it takes you? Around 7 hours on average each way compared to 4 each way on the train. Is the £14 worth saving for that long on a coach?Dont rock the boat
Dont rock the boat ,baby0 -
yes can spend £14 on a nice meal!! a thought though! aslo no hassle changing traons and fighting on the undergrpund to get acorss London not to miss the connection (been doen before!).0

I do the trip quite a lot on National Express coaches.(I have to get to Birmingham first which of course you won't have to do) Birmingham coach station is clean and safe, same at Ipswich, there is a McDonald's, Subway etc for loos.Once you give the driver your case(if you have one) just sit and relax, no changing of coaches at all.The coach does stop at Cambridge park and ride for 15 minutes or so.Time to go to the loo(tho' coach will have one on board) or to stretch your legs. There is also a coffee machine here.Journey time is around 5 hours so take food and drink. The price depends how much in advance you book your ticket and like the trains Fridays are always more expensive but tickets can be had for around £10.Oh,i almost forgot.I always avoid London, instead going across country with no changes. It's the easiest way and hassle free.0
