Just a thought, if we pay 5p for a Supermarket carrier bag does that mean that we have 30 days to return it for a refund if its faulty :rotfl::rotfl:

Exactly so in theory we could buy 10 x 5p carrier bags which will split on the way home and then next time we shop, we can take them in for a refund.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Sainsburys now have thicker bags and it does state on the bag they will replace if it breaks.0

Why not just buy a bag-for-life? It's larger so carries more and if it breaks (as they always do) they are replaced without question.0

I only use hessian bags, my point is that if you are paying 5p for it and it breaks as they all do, most people throw them away whereas you could take them back for a refund.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. You are not buying a bag, you are paying a government mandated charge. This doesn't fall within SOGA.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Rubbish!
I have purchased Morrision 39p bags. I had one which stated to fall apart after 2 shops. I took it back and got my money back. The more I live, the more I learn.

Hey, the name of the legislation even gives you a clue that it is a charge mandated by government and not a purchaseThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I am not talking about the ones you buy but the ones that now attract a charge under the Single Use Carrier Bags Charges (England) Order 2015.

Pity.
The idea in the OP is lovely: in effect it would oblige shops to take bag carrier bags and be responsible for recycling them, something that would go a long way towards achieving the environmental goals of the legislations.0 -

it's an EU directive - Not a legislation made by the democratically elected British government, Nor has it been given royal assent.2018 wins-12wins0
