compare what your getting with the best buy tables on MSE or London and Country

But the fact they lied about L+C charging fees, I would leave them on that principle alone.

If you want a free one look around. But avoid EA services at all costs.

    3 appointments?
I can only think of 1 client I have met 3 times and her circumstances were quite complex.

Why would they want to make 3 appointments? Are they that bored they need you to come in? What would you talk about on the third?

When I met a Countrywide mortgage chap he told me it was a legal requirement to meet myself and my wife in person for the money laundering checks. I'm guessing that was nonsense.

It is nonsense but it is easier if you meet. Otherwise more checks need to be done.

Being a first time buyer and not so sure what to expect i met 3 brokers before choosing. 2 independent and the countrywide one.

CW spent most of the time trying to sell me their other products, were potentially expensive and wanted to drill down ( i now know ) far too far into irrelevant Amex statements and my spending. I suspect because the lenders they were going to offer were picky but offered higher commission.

Nice bloke but no chance. The independent i chose has been great and i'm glad i went on gut feeling. A broker not having a shiny office etc has no bearing on their ability in my ( limited ) experience.

    It is complete nonsense.

The only thing a face to face meeting does is meet one of the money laundering ID requirements if its a home visit. Or verifies the photo on your passport or driving licence matches (which is risk mitigation if you use either of those for ID purposes). However, there are plenty of other ways to get ID verified.

These are all techniques from the bad old days.
