Connells EA - FTB - do they have the right to ask for all this before accepted offer

Hi,
We are looking to buy in the outskirts of London. We viewed a nice property on Saturday. We put an offer on Monday - Connells are the estate agents - for the full asking price. We are first time buyers and in good position. We have AIP with L&C mortgages.
After the offer a motgage advisor from Connells has been phoning me to get us for an appointment asking for all sorts of documents from payslips to IDs. Our offer hasn't been passed on to the buyer yet (it's Wed today). I told them we are using a different mortgage adviser but they keep asking to verify our financial situation before passing on our offer. Is this normal practice? Is it allowed? I find it strange I have to give all my financial paperwork to an estate agent?!
When we put an offer before for different properties with different EA, they didn't ask for anything. They came back to us straight away to say we were outbid etc.
We don't know what to do. Connells clearly want us to use the in-house mortgage advisor. Please advise!

There are expected to confirm your financial position and ability to proceed for the benefit of their client (the vendor).
They can do this through getting confirmation from L & C.
Anything else such as asking for financial documentation, or insisting that you attend meetings, or use their mortgage adviser is out of order, against their code of conduct, and in some cases illegal.
Connells it would appear are signed up to The Property Ombudsman Code of Practice

Their staff should therefore be aware of paragraph 18a relating to Aggressive Behaviour and pressure to use associated services.
Also 9a regarding putting forward offers.
They are out of order and they know they are.I am a Mortgage Broker

I'm boycotting all houses sold by Connells and other members of the Connells groups. I hope other buyers join me
