Stick with what you know or take a risk?

Hi everyone,
I’ve been in my current position for nearly 2 years. Although I enjoy my job and it’s close to my house it’s got to the point where I’m not developing myself or improving in any way. I feel like I’m stuck in a rut. I’ve been offered a position at another company in the same industry, however the job is located much further away from my house and there would also be a lot more preparation work involved.
I’m in two minds about whether I should take this new job. I probably wouldn’t be any better off financially but there is more room for development. There would also be a pretty steep learning curve at the start.
What would you do if you were in my shoes? Would you risk it and jump ship or stick with what you know to lead a steady life?
Many thanks,
Mark

personally, if I was bored in a job, with no room for development or progression, and your situation presented itself, I would go for the new job.
OK, this particular one is the same money (at the moment) and possibly more work, but there's room to grow and you have to challenge yourself to see what you are really capable of.
in 2 years time you could either be- sitting exactly where you are now in your existing company, same money, same role, complaining to us that you are bored.
- at the new company, in a higher role, more money, job satisfaction, learning new skills and gaining new experience.
- be somewhere else entirely.

I could write this about myself- except I'm currently looking for that other job offer!
I'm unhappy where I am due to lack of progression/satisfaction so I am looking to move. I spend more of my waking day at work then at home, so I want to make sure I'm happy with what I'm doing.
I would take the other job. You'll be happier, have a new challenge and with room for development there is scope for pay increases, so in the long term you will probably benefit.0 -

It would depend upon what age I was. If under 50 I would probably embrace the change, but over 50, I would probably soldier on in my present position.
It is a difficult decision to make and I do wish you luck.0 -
I am 47 and there is no way, I would soldier on if bored and lack of challenge, - there is at least 18 years of work in me yet, at normal pensionable age!!!!0
