Holiday advice

Hi, hope someone can give a bit of advice on this.

Where I work our new holiday entitlement starts in the 1st of January. We've been told as of 1/1/2016 we're no longer allowed to take two weeks off in a row? This doesn't seem fair to me, if you're booking a holiday abroad the chances are it'll be a 2 week holiday, but we're no longer allowed to book a 2 week holiday?

I'm owed 6 days, trying to get them is a bit like pulling teeth, I'm told this is my fault for leaving the 6 days until the end of the year? I've been trying to book then since September, surely they have to let me take them somewhere along the line before they run out?

Thanks
Brick wall.

there is no right to a two week holiday

moreover neither is it normal....common yes but not what everyone does

If you dont like it, then ultimately you can either challenge it as a collective or move on

with regard to the six days, ask them to suggest when you can take them - and take them

    And move on, after that!

The two week thing doesn't bother me as such, I tend to prefer to spread my holidays across the year.

The six days is starting to annoy me, I suggested to them to let me know what dates are suitable, that was in September, they're still dragging their heels and now we're into October, I'm prepared to split them and have a few long weekends, I don't know what else I can suggest.

remind them that if they don't come up with dates then you will be taking them in Dec. or might have to carry over if they refuse to let you have them.

You are getting at least the statutory minimum.

what is the business justification for the no two week rule?
  • Employers can state when holidays are taken and how many at a time, as long as they do not prevent you from using your leave entitlement during the holiday year.

If you don't get approval use up the 6 days before the end of the year, ask for them to be carried over. If they refuse, provide them with the proof that you were trying to use them up but the company would not approve them.
