£9.50 holidays this Autumn

I saw on the hotdealsuk website that the Sun is offering cheap holidays in British holiday parks. There is a service charge to pay and an extra entertainment pass charge but it says there is no need to collect any tokens so I reckon it is still a bargain. We just paid £639 to stay in one of the featured parks for a week this Summer.

  • We did this two years running through the sun. We booked with friends and they got their holiday £1 cheaper when booking through haven direct. We got our holiday very last minute for the summer this year at £295 (that was for a silver as well) for 7 nights i.e rang up in the morning and went away in the afternoon! They make their money from the ground rent of the owners, and also from the other stuff in the park - the arcades, the expensive beer and little supermarket (they give you change in £1's so you'll spend it in the arcades). Also the restaurants on site are so awful and overpriced we cooked in our lovely clean static, and probably saved a load of money in the process (after shopping in lidl - not bad). Also got a free bottle of wine for answering 5 questions about wanting to own a caravan, which we didn't - but they weren't bothered. Went to the tourist information office, and got money off vouchers for some of the attractions.

It would have been an even cheaper week if i could have persuaded other half to go camping, but it wasn't happening!

  • What the £295 one? Yes. We have a six year old so are feeling the rip-off on summer holidays, it was the 4th - 11th August (the really good weather week). If you don't go for the most popular parks (we went to mablethorpe). We rang the night before and were offered £365 by the chap on the phone with a free upgrade to silver. They wouldn't go further on the price, but said if we spoke to the park direct they might be able to - so we rang the next morning. Mr ttmcm (a tight yorkshireman born and bred) still thought we could have negociated harder and that it was still too expensive.
The key to remember when negociating is that they are better off having a filled caravan than an empty one. Mainly because of the money "you will spend" when there.
Haven parks would be happy if everyone owned a caravan on their site because they get up to £7k a year in ground rent from the owners. Right -I'm off to open a caravan park! Hope my waffle has been of help.

By the time you have worked out the price of the Sun holidays including adding the gas/elec, bedding, passes etc it is way cheaper to book direct with Haven.

Haven also do half price holidays if you book before February of the following year. Granted, they aren''t all in the school holidays but then neither are the Sun ones.

Our family usually buy the Loot in February -ish and book a private caravan. We paid £550 for a luxury 8 berth last year, including en suite bathroom to one of the bedroom and the caravan was amazing, and in a private area of its own. (Also included passes to the clubs)

Don't be fooled by £9.50 holidays ... sometimes they work out much dearer than booking direct.
  • Thanks for the info folks- just saved me from a false bargain! The £639 holiday I have just been on was at the Parkdean St. Minver site which is lovely and was fully booked so there would have been no bargains there but I might still consider Havens Cumbrian site. We always cook in our ststic anyway as DS is faddy and we BBQ if weather permits. Thanks again though , I,ll definitely compare with booking direct if I do go ahead.
