Hi all,
First post here. Got a bit of a oil industry job dilemma.
Current salary is £30k for ra 9-5 office job. Been offered £15k basic + £200/day worked offshore as a Geologist in the same company.
Reckon I will work around 140 days a year on the rig but not guaranteed. What would you advise given the current offshore industry climate is looking bad.
I'm 26 years old with a Mortgage and no dependents.
Cheers,
Max

your costs will be lower when on the rig will this be long stints with no breaks and will any days over 5 in a week give time off on the office based weeks?
You need 75 days to break even
I suspect the rig work will get you extra certification and experience that makes you more attractive on the job market.0 -
My ex-flatmate did this and was desperate to get a fully offshore position (geophysics for him). However, that was 5 years ago when new offshore wells looked like a great idea, now it might be less so. If you are an a position where you can work anywhere in the world then I'd agree with gm4l that you'll probably be a lot more marketable once you've got that offshore experience.0

Over the last year ive had the office salary with days offshore ontop. So thats coming to an end. As you guys say looks like the main benefit will be career progression..0
