Undecided about remortgage

Hi

We currently pay a variable repayment mortgage at 2.6% which is about £780 per month. We owe £127k and have 17 years left

I wanted to enquire about securing a rate for 5 years and maybe raise a little extra to do some work to the property.

The IFA has advised me on a re-mortgage with natwest on 2.9% and to raise £135k take it out for 24 year term by over pay to keep on track for 17 year pay back.

If I can only raise 6k I might not bother or would securing a rate now for 5 years be nutty to turn down?

Thanks for looking :D
